Tired Of The “I’m Not Moving Fast Enough”-Syndrome? Here’s Your Way Out

“Faster! Faster! You’re not moving fast enough. It is almost July!” By now I should have launched my first group program, become crystal clear on my focus for CarolienTV and delivered my first afternoon workshop on what it is talented professionals truly desire for themselves. And look where I’m at!

Grrrr! There’s some frustration here. And I know this thread of thinking doesn’t help me at all. Let’s take a deep breath and pause for a second to see whether I can move into something different. How about something that does support me?

I know this is true too: I’m doing work I totally love. I love coaching with my private clients. I’m having a lot of fun developing my own YouTube channel with CarolienTV; the first interview was both scary and a lot of fun. And I know that that is exactly what something new should feel like: scary (in a good way) and fun. Simultaneously. That’s where the juice is. The good news is: the first episode of CarolienTV is almost ready for release.

Although, I have to admit, there’s no afternoon workshop yet. But hey, yes I do feel committed and have made all the preparations needed to give the first one in late August. I’m good to go.

Same situation, but an entirely different story. And what a relief! I feel like a different woman. This second story enables me to move forward.

To go short: everything depends on what type of energy I decide to feed. Everything.

If I allow the panicky, “Oh my God, why am I not any further”-type energy to take over, I’m lost. I feel stress. I freeze. I don’t take any action. Nothing happens.

But if I decide to stop myself and provide myself with a more easygoing and positive mindset, plenty of opportunities arise in front of me again. The only thing I have to do is to take a very small first step. That’s it!

Alright, here’s the plan. I need to contact my graphic designer so that the CarolienTV logo will be aligned with my branding. And I need to make an appointment with a dear friend who knows everything about Facebook ads so that I can start spreading the word about my workshop.

I can totally pull that off. This isn’t hard work at all!

So what do you do when you’re feeling trapped in different negative stories? You catch yourself and consciously provide yourself with a supportive mindset. Here are three strategies that I like to apply myself:

Take a deep breath. Or three. As many as you feel you need. Notice where you are. Feel how you are sitting on your chair with both your feet on the ground. Then, with your next breath, you bring your attention within. Check how you are on the inside. Is there ease, a feeling of being rushed or feeling uncomfortable? Just noticing is enough. Nothing has to change. Being present with yourself and with everything that is going on within you allows you to experience ease again.

Ask yourself this simple question: What is my NOW feeling? This question will get you immediately out of your head. Look at it this way: your mind went on a walk on its own. Unattended by you. And before you knew it, it parachuted you into the future, making up stories that cause you to feel rushed. Or worried. Or not being enough. By consciously shifting your attention to your body and asking yourself what you are feeling now, you quickly take back your power.

Consciously choosing which stories you allow in your life can help a lot. Remember that you are in charge; not your mind. And the stories that make you feel icky? Very simple: you let them go. I recommend using focusing, the Sedona Method or The Work of Byron Katie. I use all three.

Here’s a question for you: What do you do when your mind is telling you that you’re moving way too slow? I’d love to hear from you. You can leave your comment below. You will always get a response.
